Indian Classical Music

Indian Classical Music has its origins in the scriptures known as the Vedas. The ancient scriptures that haven't been distorted or tainted by the human ego are spiritual, not religious. But unfortunately, a large part of today’s human race takes a convenient and limited view of the scriptures; for example, many claim that the Vedas are part of the “Hindu” tradition. In reality, “Hinduism” or “Christianity” are subsets or restricted views of spirituality. Spirituality is as broad and all-pervading as the all-pervading power itself. So, while scriptures and teachings such as the Vedas or the original teachings of Christ had origins in pure spirituality, they soon came to be dubbed “Hindu” or "Christian" and began to be associated with “Hinduism” and "Christianity".
During the period of 2000 BC to 1000 BC, ancient saints in India lived amongst nature and its creations… trees, birds, rocks, water etc.. The atmosphere was supercharged with these natural treasures. The spiritual prowess of these saints caused them to identify musical sounds and use music as a medium to preserve and document the knowledge of spirituality at a time when written methods did not exist. Soon their musical knowledge found its way into the Vedas scriptures (specifically Sama Veda). Even at this stage, their music and knowledge was entirely spiritual — it had a strong relationship with divinity, the Gods and all things spiritual. As the ages passed after Christ's birth, these Vedas began to be classified as belonging to “Hindu” religion, in an attempt to understand human beings and their limited maturity levels.
So, just as the true worship, recognition and respect for the family of Gods is spiritual, Indian Classical music, too, has its origins in spirituality.
